Why Dennis turns up rocks
Scargo Lake, up behind Dennis Village, is a kettle hole. It was made by a block of ice left behind by the retreating glacier, buried in outwash, and slowly melted out. It is around sixty acres and drops to roughly forty eight feet at its deepest.
The hill above it, Scargo Hill, is moraine, and the shoreline on that side of the lake is scattered with boulders the ice dropped. That is not a curiosity, it is a warning about what is under a lot of driveways in the northern half of this town. Excavating near the moraine can turn up cobbles and the occasional rock that has to come out before anything can be built on top.
South of there, running down toward Dennis Port and the sound, the ground turns to outwash sand and digging gets much easier. Same town, two different jobs.
What this means for your estimate
We look at where in Dennis you are before we say anything about how long a job will take. A driveway up near 6A and a driveway in Dennis Port can be the same size and still be a day apart in work, purely because of what is under them.
The five villages
Dennis Village and East Dennis in the north, on and around Route 6A, with older houses and the stonier ground. South Dennis in the middle. West Dennis and Dennis Port along the sound, flatter, sandier and far more seasonal.

A lot of Dennis Port and West Dennis is summer property, and a driveway used heavily for three months and barely at all for nine wears in a particular way. It compacts hard in the wheel tracks over the summer, then sits through winter with water finding those same tracks and freezing in them.
The result is usually a driveway that looks fine in September and noticeably rutted by May. If that is your pattern, a spring regrade and top off is a much better use of money than waiting three years and rebuilding.

Crushed stone is the right answer there. The angular faces lock together and resist the slow downhill creep that a slope pulls out of shell. Down in Dennis Port and West Dennis, where the ground flattens out toward the sound, shell comes back into its own.
